Can you catch herpes by sharing chapstick? i am 99.99 % sure i did not share my chapstick with my friend (who has no open sores), but i wanted to make sure?

I have seen no studies on this but you can go to pubmed.com and search herpes AND Chapstick and see. I am 99% sure it would not be passed in this manner but see what the world's literature says.

There's probably no significant risk. Such products usually contain preservatives that would prevent virus transmission. That said, don't press your luck: nobody should be using others' personal products like chapstick, lipstick, etc.

A virus can be spread from one person or an infected object to another person. Lip balm or gloss ,as well as sharing a toothbrush can transfer the virus if that person is infected. Never share objects that cause skin to skin contact, a virus or bacteria can be transferred.
