Unlikely: It is unlikely that the hip is slipping out of joint. A snapping hip could be causing your symptoms where muscle or tendon or other soft tissue is "slipping" over the edge of the bone. This is best managed with stretching, pt, and sometimes a cortisone injection. At 51 you could also be experiencing symptoms of arthritis. See your doctor for an xray & evaluation.
