Left sided abdominal pain when menstruating may be due to endometriosis invasion of the intestinal wall, and will cause lower back pain also. If you are not on low dose oral contraceptives, ask your GYN physician about bcp's, to retain fertility, and reduce symptoms of ovulation related and menstrual pain, since both involve a dramatic decrease in estrogen, causing activation of endometriotic pain
