A member asked:

Should i get a pap smear if i am a virgin? the gynecologist i went to said i don't need one but i've heard people saying it is still recommended even if you're a virgin. i did have sexual contact before, but not penetrative sex?

in the US a common practice is a pap within 3 yrs of starting intercourse or age 21 at the latest. There are rare causes of cervical cancer not related to sexual transmitted disorders. OBGYNS have equipment to do a pap less invasively on virginal patients.

Virginity is not a prevention to one getting cervical cancer so a regular Pap smear would be of value. Good Luck
