Safe: I think you will be fine having applied olive oil to your penis for lubrication, as the oil will not cause any serious injury, but may be irritating if directly applied into the urethral opening. I would recommend using the lubricants and gels sold for this purpose that are found easily at all major pharmacies. Good luck.
