See below: The blood culture together with a vegetation on the cardiac leaves are a gold standard for a diagnosis of endocarditis, but it might be false-negative. There are currently more sensitive blood tests exist for a bacterial infection, like pcr, but they are very expensive send out tests and not all heath insurance companies are covering them.
