Needs follow up: In some cases the viability of the pregnancy cannot be confirmed by ultrasound until 6 weeks from the lmp, or even later. The size of the gestational sac is not the most accurate way of documenting a live pregnancy. Only by visualizing the fetus with a vaginal sonogram and seeing (or hearing with doppler) the fetal heart beat can one confirm if viable.
