A member asked:

What is the significance of specific gravity determination? (in urine?

Urine concentration should be within a specific range. This range reflects the ability of the kidneys to concentrate or dilute urine based on changes in fluid intake and fluid loss. The specific gravity is a dependable marker for that function. There are kidney conditions where they loose the abilities. Some health conditions are marked by abnormal urine specific gravity.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. The specific gravity is not diagnostic of any illness by itself and needs to be interpreted along with other results of urine testing. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. Get HPV and Covid vaccines. Wish you good health
