To get best images: Ultrasound uses sound waves reflecting off tissues in your body to create images. The further the sound waves have to travel, the less accurate the images. The ultrasonographer is trained to gather images with the best quality possible. Depending on what was seen, sometimes a view through the side or flank is necessary for best images. The ovaries sometimes are best seen from the side.
