A member asked:

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and 3cm dilated. i've been discharging brown discharge for a while, is it safe to be at home at my condition? is it safe to have sex?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

At a documented "36 weeks" of pregnancy, with a first pregnancy and "3 cm dilation", labor may start at any point, but delivery should not be precipitous (rapid enough for your inability to reach a hospital setting). Sex should be avoided b/c of the possibility of infection with an open cervix ("3 cm dilation). Your OB physician may elect to induce labor in another week or so.
