Steroids creams (hydrocortisone etc) are exactly the wrong thing to use in this situation: don't do it. They inhibit the immune response to yeast and can make vaginal yeast infections worse. There are non-azole anti-yeast medications, but none over the counter; contact your doctor about alternate treatments such as nystatin (and others). Good luck.
