A member asked:

Is it possible to struggle with prednisone taper while on dmard? does it make the taper less painful or is it supposed to make the taper a breeze?

Should be possible: If the dmard is as effective as intended then a slow taper of Prednisone should be successful. The inability to taper Prednisone to low levels indicates that that current dmard therapy needs to be modified.

Yes it can: Dmards help allow the Prednisone taper to occur. However; it may take awhile for the dmard to take effect and the autoimmune that you are treating maybe very active which makes it even more difficult to wean off. Have patience and continue to work with your doctor and hopefully you will get come off the prednisone.
