Both of these are possible. There are reports that a few (three?) workers in the lab had illnesses in late 2019 similar to COVID, suggesting they might hvae been infected in the lab. This seems to favor the accidental leak hypothesis. But it's definitely a natural virus in bats, and could have gotten into humans some way other than through the lab. Politically sensitive research is needed!
