Acne and dark spots: There are medications that treat both acne lesions and dark spots, like retinoids, benzoyl peroxides and azelaic acid. All of these can be irritating so start them slowly at twice a week and gradually increase to once a day. Irritation from acne treatments can by itself produce dark spots, so slower is better.
