It should be. Many OBGYNs recommend a backup form of birth control for the first month of any hormonal product like the pill or injection. Having unprotected sex the day after the injection does not give the med time to stop the natural egg release process.

"Depo" shots for contraception in doses recommended for same will be acting for contraception for at least three months. The pregnancy rate on depoprogesterone is only about 3-4%, but given your experience, you might want to inquire about an IUD from your gyn physician.
