A 68-year-old male asked:
Could you please explain to me what hypostatic pneumonia is? is it a lung inflammation caused by lack of mobility in some hospital patients or a lung inflammation caused by an infection? i do not have the condition myself?

People need to periodically cough and take deep breaths to keep their lungs fully inflated. Most do so automatically, unconsciously. Those who are weak and/or debilitated often cannot do so (too weak, too sleepy). The bottom of their lungs partially collapse, often with eventual development of pneumonia
Created for people with ongoing healthcare needs but benefits everyone.
