They are both beta-blockers and slow the heart and lower BP. Bis is a selective beta-1 antagonist (or blocker of B-1) which control heart rate and BP and Metro is as well. Bis is broken down more slowly by the liver and its 1/2 life is 9-12 hours which is slower than Metro, Thus one needs a lower dose mg for mg. Usually. 2 50 mg tabs (=100 mg) of Metro costs $208 for 90 and Bis about $90 for 90
