PPI, see MD: class of meds called proton pump inhibitors e.g. omeprazole generally more effective if used properly, but the majority of patients are not using it properly (ie generally take first thing in morning, and MUST have breakfast within 30-60min later) to be optimal compared to antacids (maalox, mylanta, TUMS). Chronic heartburn should be evaluated w MD to rule out complications and optimize treatments
