Herpes outbreak: The color of herpes lesions doesn't matter. In dark skinned persons, sores might lighter than surrounding skin. But other appearances are far more important" blister- or pimple-like, clusters of several lesions, becoming open sores and finally, on dry skin, scabs. All this occurs over 2-3 weeks in the first herpes infection, usually 7-10 days for recurrent oubreaks.
