A member asked:

How can i possibly be at risk of hsv2 if i properly use condoms on all encounters, never have sex during outbreaks, never touch her genital area with uncovered penis, and wash throughly after sex. what is the potential infection path in this case?

Herpes prevention: If you do all these things, you'll be at low risk for HSV2. Lower still if your partner is taking an anti-herpetic drug like valacyclovir. Even with proper condom use, usually there is skin contact above the condom. Although risk can never be zero, most likely you could go a lifetime of regular sex without catching it. If partnership is committed and permanent, catching HSV may not matter.
