Consistency is key: It is recommended that during the first month of using oral contraceptive pills you use a backup method, like condoms for example. The effectiveness is affected by inconsistency. As long as you take your pills as instructed, the effectiveness should remain as expected. Also remember that no contraceptive is 100% effective.
