Maroon stool: Maroon colored stool can be caused by blood from the right side of the colon or terminal portion of the small intestine. A simple test of a stool sample obtained by a rectal exam in the physician's office can detect blood in the bowel movement. Since you're also having a change in bowel habits I recommend being examined by your physician or,more preferably, being evaluated by a gastroenterologist
