Most are safe: There is a potential interaction with metoprolol & sertraline (Zoloft), one of the popular SSRI antidepressants. The older tricyclics (amitriptyline , etc)) are best avoided in people with cardiac problems (which a person on metoprolol might have). Other antidepressants should be OK to use, but cognitive therapy & Counselling can often help depressed patients as much as medication does
