COVID19 vs Influenza: COVID-19 and flu are caused by different viruses. COVID-19, or coronavirus, affects the lower respiratory tract of a person’s lungs and can cause loss of sense of taste or smell, scratchy throat, body aches, headaches, cough, and fever. Influenza, or the flu, affects the upper respiratory tract, which can cause runny nose, cough stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches, vomiting/diarrhea.
