I've been treated for osteoporosis from 2000. 8 yrs bisphos... + continuous 2x500mg calcium and 2x0,25 pch alfacalcidol a day. now some broken ribs have healed collagen only. no calcium! could i still have develloped osteomalacia while taking c+a ?

Osteoporosis: Likely not osteomalacia, however a bisphosphonate should not be taken 8 years consecutively. We routinely use it for 3-5 years, then take a "drug holiday" during which time we either stop the med or change to a different one. If on bisphosphonate for too long, bones may not remodel the correctly, and atypical fractures can occur. Talk to your doc about whether you should still be on it.
