Could be pregnancy: Shortness of breath is common in the second trimester of pregnancy. Possibly your pregnancy is simply making your heart work harder than usual. But you should watch for wheezing, ankle or leg swelling or tenderness, discoloration in fingers or toes, lightheadedness, skipping in your heartbeats, coughing, and/or chest pain. If your shortness of breath is worsening, you should speak to a doctor.
