Sort of...: Numbers are numbers, and words are just words. With hyperkalemia (blood potassium level above the lab's reference range), it can be slight, mild, moderate, severe. Some people use other words. For slight hyperkalemia, sometimes we don't say the word hyperkalemia because it can sound scary. Numbers start to have meaning when the doctor knows the patient's whole story.
