i have a light bloody vaginal discharge, which is a little bit foul smelling. it is not the time of my period. my period ended less than a week ago. i am not sexually active. by what can it be caused?

Infection?: Since it is little bit foul smelling you should think infection one of the possible causes. If it was not smelling i would think probably intermenstrual bleeding due to hormonal causes. See a gynecologist.
