COVID-19: Early diagnosis allows the infected person and his/her doctor to perhaps act sooner if a COVID-19 infection becomes severe. But the main benefit is for the infected person to take careful precautions to protect others, and for health officials to track the epidemic. If treatment such as an anti-coronavirus drug becomes available, earlier diagnosis would allow more prompt treatment.
