A member asked:

Would it make any difference (in survival) to stop smoking if you've already been diagnosed with stage iv lung cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes it may.: First, I am sorry you have received this diagnosis and hoping you will receive excellent care. Quitting smoking is difficult, but recent evidence shows the repairs the body does can occur in 6-12 months after stopping. Further, quitting may provide important psychological and financial benefits. Use some of the tools online and discuss it with your medical team as they can be a support.
