A member asked:

What is a kidney protocol ct scan?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Renal mass protocol: A renal or kidney protocol CT scan is done in 2 phases. The first is a CT scan of the kidney without dye. The second is done 90 seconds after the dye is injected intravenously. The protocol is done to identify the presence and type of a mass lesion. It may be fluid filled which is a cyst, or solid which can be a benign or malignant growth. A biopsy would then be needed to differentiate.
