Anal fissure: Keep bowel movements soft by taking a stool softener daily. After a bowel movement apply warm water compresses or sit in semihot water, pat dry. If there is accompanying itching, apply a cortisone ointment. A proctologist or colorectal surgeon are best to treat and provide follow-up for anal fissures.
