Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from acid pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, pancreatitis, gallstones, or various cancers can cause upper abdominal pain. One's doctor (or the ER if worrisome symptoms) can examine.
