A member asked:

Are there any other bacterial throat infections besides strep throat?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not really: In some cases when a person with AIDS or another immune deficiency a doc might treat any infection aggressively, strep or not. The prime reason to treat strep is to avoid community spread & the complications of rheumatic fever (heart/brain/kidney). Other germs are always in the throat & some of these can sometimes cause other infections.
