By prescription only: In general, birth control pills such as packages of combination pills or packages of progesterone-only mini-pills are by prescription only. If an emergency refill is needed under special circumstances, some locales allow pharmacists to refill a limited amount even when the prescription is not readily available. In the US, such birth control pills are not sold over-the-counter (but Plan B is OTC).
