Why hpv cause cancer in human?

Unknown: The seven or more strains of this virus associated with cancer can trigger it years or decades after the initial infection. The events occur at a microscopic cellular level & the exact cause is elusive. We have done Pap smears to find early signs of such change for decades before understanding the link. In time we may better understand it.
