Wording issue: HPV is a family of virus strains that tend to have an initial active period (few yrs) before they go dormant or "hibernate" within an infected person indefinitely. Wart strains respond to direct treatment & rarely but can re-activate. Strains associated with cervical cancer can be dormant for years or decades before triggering the changes of cancer.
