Thrombosed: Hemorrhoids are caused by increased venous pressure in the rectal venous drainage system. Think W.A.S.H. for treatment- warm water baths, analgesic agent (anusol), stool softener, high fiber diet. If no relief or worsening pain the hemorrhoid can thrombose and that necessitates incision of the lesion and a visit to the surgeon.
