A member asked:

My 5 year old had a tonsillectomy adenoidectomy and nasopharynx can you please tell me what the nasopharynx is please?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Upper throat area: The oropharynx is the portion of one's throat that is visible when one opens his mouth widely. The nasopharynx is the part of the throat above what is visible, and is above the soft palate, so one cannot see the nasopharynx when looking into the mouth. A nice diagram is at: https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/nasopharynx
