Abreva cream: Abreva is the over-the-counter cream for oral herpes lesions on or near the lips. (Note - herpes lesions in an eye is very serious and needs an eye doctor.) If a person has often got oral herpes, he can take anti-viral pills daily to try to prevent outbreaks. Otherwise, he can get a prescription for the oral anti-viral to use right away at the beginning of each outbreak. Abreva cream helps so-so.
