Usually will respond quickly to a combination cream (anti-fungal plus a cortisone type medication), for example, Lotrisone cream applied sparingly twice daily. First, clean the skin with soap and water; blot dry with tissue, then apply the cream. Rarely is the infection due to bacteria such as staph aureus which would require an antibiotic.
