Norovirus?: If your friend has typical viral gastroenteritis -- nausea, vomiting, and a few days of diarrhea, usually without fever -- the most common cause is norovirus. Noro is extremely contagious and can remain so for a few days after symptoms start to improve. Safer to wait a week before personal contact or hanging out, either at his home or yours.
