IUD ?'s: IUD strings can irritate male during intercourse, and are deliberately cut short, so "feeling the thread" is not always possible. With uterine contractions, the IUD can twist, drawing the thread into the cervical canal. IUD's if in the wrong anatomic location will cause pain and bleeding, and if you are not having such, are still effective for birth control.

IUD "lost" thread: It is possible that the thread has"rolled up into the cervix", but for contraception sake you should return to the MD who inserted the IUD to confirm that the IUD and the thread are still in place.
