A member asked:

Are gonorreah & clamidia always passed on through unprotected sex? is it possible to not pass it on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes but: There is a slight possibility that either would not transfer during a given sex act. However, that would be the exception rather than the rule. Notification of partners of potential exposure is the only ethical thing to do. In many states it is done by public health officers since these conditions are listed under some state laws as reportable conditions.
