A member asked:

How come nitrofurantoin doesnt work for chlaymidia in the penis since the drug passed through the urethra?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Basics: Antibiotics work based on the individual sensitivity of the germ, not where the antibiotic exits the body. One of the first antibiotics, penicillin killed most germs until some strains mutated & became resistant. Until the mid 70's penicillin killed most gonorrhea strains, now it won't. Overuse or inappropriate sharing of abx by the population increases germ resistance. These are the basic facts.
