Periodic breathing: Infants are developing their pattern of respiration and often have a pattern of breathing called periodic breathing. Observe closely, video the episodes and discuss with her Pediatrician. Watch for signs of blue tint to the skin, more than occasional gasping, and pulling of her rib and neck muscles. If these occur, please see the ED.

Common: A newborn must train it's system to match the rate & depth of breathing to match their need. This varies for sleep, wake, feeding, fussing, etc..The placenta provided this in the womb.Their 1st month is marked by periods of rapid/slow/shallow or deep breaths until they sort it out.Pauses up to 10 secs are common..If you notice a color change or this really spooks you see your doc.
