Can shingles damage the skin and make it exposed to bacteria infections?

YES: secondary bacterial infections can occur when vesicles ( blistes) become contamination- usually caused by scratching or trying to squeeze fluid from the blisters. If infected you may require oral antibiotics as well as anti-viral medicine.
