Period ?'s: Intermittant bleeding ("stop/start") at age 36 may be due to blood clots since periods tend to be heavier in mid-30's. Heavier periods are caused by increased estrogen production in the ovaries, causing thicker lining of the uterine walls. Clots will block the cervical canal briefly, which stops temporarily the flow of blood. Oral bcp's will stop this pattern, so ask your gyn about them.
