Caffeine: Caffeine is a methyxanthine and they are stimulants. The effect on the brain is to enhance the ascending reticular activating system. This is the part of the brain that "wakes you up!".

Confusing post: How much caffeine daily for how long ? Caffeine is a drug that enters the brain & has a stimulant effect. Over time, with long term use you can develop both a tolerance for caffeine, requiring more to maintain the effect & withdrawal if caffeine is stopped. Headaches, fatigue & somnolence are a pattern consistent with withdrawal. It would not be expected wit episodic or rare use of small amounts
