A member asked:

How useful are condoms at protecting from std

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Better than nothing: STD's are transmitted through sexual fluids during intimate contact. In some cases a condom can stop those fluids from reaching areas within a penis that would become infected. For some, it reduces risk but does not stop all the germs, especially when sexual fluids contact other genital areas. In short it is better than nothing, but not perfect.
